Who are the Patriots?
The La-Li-Lu-Le-Lo.
No, seriously, the Patriots are the chief adventuring organization in the world of Heroic Earth. They're an overworked and outgunned bunch that misses 2/3rds of the super hero world's crime because they're trying to stop the other third. Also, they get their butts kicked by the bad guys just as often as they put them down. Nevertheless, they're what passes for the World's Greatest Heroes until your characters can surpass them.
Athena: The leader of the Patriots. A literal goddess from Olympus, Athena has forsaken most of her power to come to Earth and fight the evils of the world. Gentle and wise, Athena is also arrogant and opinonated about just how mortals should handle their affairs.
Black Wing: Billionaire Industrialist Alexander Timons is quite possibly the smartest man on Earth. Unfortunately, it comes from his ancestor Professor James Moriarty. The son of the world's most dangerous criminal, the terrorist Death Mask, Alexander Timons attempts to make right some of his ancestor's sins. His inventions may usher in a new age of enlightenment for humanity, if he can resist the temptations of becoming a despot.
Crimson Tarantula: Former terrorist and House of Serpents Ashley Morgan is suffering some slight problems. Specifically, she is suffering some slight vampirism problems. Cursed with the powers of the undead, Ashley Morgan must struggle to use her blood thirst-powered abilities for good rather than evil. The Patriots may ultimately be powerless to prevent her from descending into evil.
Divinos: Alien Mikhail from the planet Mithran, Divinos came to the Earth as an adult when his home world was destroyed by the Darkness Beyond Time. Aloof and spiritual, Mikhail keeps his distance from the people of the Earth while trying to be their savior. He is not alone in this with his sister, Angel Girl, being there to aid him in his quest.
Dawn Wing: Alexander Timon's adopted son and teenaged side kick. Eugene "Brick" Williams has to cope with the immense responsibility of being super hero to one of the most dangerous men on the planet. Already having faced death on dozens of occasions, Dawn Wing has to ask if he still wants to continue in his mentor's footsteps or if he should try and make an attempt at a normal life.
Splotch: Joel Stein is the legacy of the Golden Age hero Ink Spot. Blessed with the powers of an alien artifact, Splotch is filling in for his now comatose brother. As the wise-cracking hero of the group, he does a reasonably affiable job. As Joel Stein, he doesn't achieve nearly the same success.
Steel Commando III: The United States' official super hero. Steven Shepherd is the third man to wear the armor of the Steel Commando. Unfortunately, the second has gone on to become the merciless patriot super villain General Venom. His own man, Steven must balance his loyalty to the United States' citizens with his distaste for the present trends of the government.
The Patriots operate from Patriots Mansion in New Amsterdam and attempt to cope with the tremendous amount of evil that is going on in the world at any given time. They are a good intentioned and selfless bunch but their abilities are simply not sufficient for the countless world crises they face.
